Alumni Spotlight: Will Baker

Will Baker

I graduated in December 2016, was hired as a Claims Representative in January 2017, and made the move to Denver, Colo. Through the seven months of claims adjusting and working from home, I became unhappy with working from home, and began to view claims adjusting as a job and not a career. I knew it was time to look for a change.

I remembered that Dr. Jordan had recommended ICAT, the Excess and Surplus Lines company who insure high-risk hurricane and earthquake areas, and sent in an application.

On Thursday morning, July 20th, I accepted a position with ICAT as an Underwriting Services Manager II. This will be a great move for me, and am excited to enter into E&S and begin my career in underwriting, even as a supportive role - for now.

Through the hiring process, I had an interview with one of your former students from Troy, Anna Stephen. We discussed you, your classes, and I told her that I would let you know I had spoken with her.

All-in-all, I just wanted to thank you for being an invaluable influence on your students. Without you at EKU, I likely would have never considered E&S as a career option, and likely would have only had a minuscule understanding of that part of the Insurance Industry.
