Cody Gilliam 'Aces' RMI Golf Outing
EKU’s College of Business and Technology’s Risk Management and Insurance program hosted their 26th annual golf outing at Arlington Golf Club on September 8, 2016.
The outing is designed as a fundraiser for RMI scholarships. It was coordinated for 22 of its 26 years by local businessmen Shawn Ewer and Brian Dickey, but has since passed into the hands of RMI faculty and administrators. Since its inception, the fundraiser has garnered more than $250,000 in support.
Insurance company agents from across the state and their clients participate in the golfing fundraiser, competing to win some great prizes of their own. This year’s treasure included golf bags, golf clubs, golf balls, umbrellas, and other relevant sports gear.
“It was definitely very successful,” Dr. Carol Jordan describes. “We raised a very full amount for this year’s scholarship recipients, as well as other RMI students.”
Mr. Mark Miller, the very first recipient of the scholarship during the fundraiser’s first year, is now a proud sponsor. Other sponsors included Liberty Mutual Insurance, Maverick Insurance Group, Aflac, the Kentucky League of Cities, and Texas Roadhouse.
The day was also marked by a special occasion for student Cody Gilliam; he scored a hole-in-one! “The outing was fantastic. It was a great opportunity to meet potential employers and learn more about the insurance business. As an avid golfer I had always dreamed of making a hole in one and it made the day one that I will always remember.” Cody, a senior from Lexington, is pictured above (center) with his team.
