Alex Cummins Receives Coveted ABSIP Sponsorship
The Anita Benedetti Student Involvement Program (ABSIP) gives students the opportunity to attend the RIMS (Risk Management Society) Annual Conference and Exhibition. Each year, ABSIP awards 30 scholarships to fund the attendance of the conference. This year one of those awarded was EKU Risk Management and Insurance student Alexandra Cummins.
The 30 students are chosen from the United States and Canada, and two international students are also included each year. These students are outstanding in their field of study, risk and insurance management. Their sponsorship includes airfare, hotel expenses, registration, and a small stipend. This year’s conference is held in Boston, MA.
The conference provides students with networking opportunities with members of the student advisory council, RMI board of directors, insurers, brokers, and many more industry professionals. Additionally, students participate in conference sessions, and gain career development skills that will prove to be very valuable.
Alexandra intends on graduating in May 2019 with a BBA in Risk Management and Insurance. Post-graduation she plans to works in claims or under writing. She hopes the conference will set her apart in that applicant pool as well as providing her with valuable knowledge and experience.
Alex said, “I definitely have to give credit to Burke Christensen and Debbie Ellis for helping me get to where I am today. From the day I went to them to speak about declaring RMI as my major, they have been supportive and always willing to help me. I am blessed beyond measure to have been chosen as a 2019 ABSIP Scholar and I can't wait to attend the conference in Boston this year! I do urge anyone thinking about checking out RMI classes to do so.”
Program Coordinator of Risk Management and Insurance, Debbie Ellis, recommended Alex for the program.
“Alex is a senior and an excellent, hard working student. She has been an active participant in all RMI events and traveled with us many times to conferences. I personally enjoyed spending a week with her in London, England where we visited Lloyd’s of London on our annual study abroad trip in 2018. Alex is the president of our PSI chapter of Gamma Iota Sigma and has done a great job this year increasing our membership. In fact she has brought in more members this year than any other year. Alex is kind and willing to help out her fellow students and is great example of an EKU Colonel.”
