Sophomore Evan Kear may be studying hard to wrap up finals week, but he has plenty to be happy about. The Risk Management and Insurance major from Richmond just received a $3,000 scholarship from Erie Insurance.

The Erie Insurance Scholarship is a writing competition granted annually to an RMI major at the beginning of their junior or senior year with an overall GPA of at least 3.0. In addition to the essay, they must demonstrate exceptional character, scholarship, leadership and professionalism as selected by Erie Insurance Management Committee at the Kentucky Branch of Erie Insurance Group.

Kear presented a winning essay on the future of the independent agent, their challenges and the value they bring to consumers.

Presenting the 'big check' award were Rob Kepperling and Billy Aliff from Erie Insurance in Lexington. According to program coordinator Debbie Ellis, "Erie has been a great supporter of our program. We appreciate the relationship we have with them and the benefit it is to our students."
