Ridings Resource Center Named
It's not just another room with the usual desk or table and chairs. As many as six Risk Management and Insurance students may gather to study for exams or prepare for telephone interviews. In this special area, students come to eat lunch, study together, have small group learning sessions with professors and even take a quick nap. All due to the exceptional generosity of George and Judy Ridings.
The George E. and Judith H. Ridings Student Resource Center is now officially commemorated to recognize their contribution to the ongoing success of RMI students. The center houses a library of industry specialization volumes along with older issues of classroom textbooks. Several professional periodicals are available for research and some even offer scholarship paper competitions.
According to Debbie Ellis, "Recently, we purchased several books on how to find and interview for a job, books on the tax code and Obama Care, and study materials for students to study for the CPCU exams." Access to free preparatory materials used by The Institutes for obtaining the CPCU designation in insurance is vitally important to the budding insurance professional.
Ellis continues, "Additional funds will be used to continue magazine subscriptions and purchase updated books on insurance topics. We would also love to purchase a full set of study materials for all of the CPCU exams from the Institutes. The CPCU designation consists of eight exams and study materials are very expensive. We would love to have more students take the exams and get their CPCU before graduation."
Program director Dr. Burke Christensen continues the sentiment, "George and Judy Ridings are living examples of 'Pay it Forward.' Their generosity has enabled us to provide textbooks, study guides and industry journals to RMI students that make them better qualified for higher–income, professional jobs at insurers throughout the country.”
