Scholarship Story: Ketsia (Kate) Modema

Ketsia Modema

Where did you attend high school?

I went to Henry Clay High School/Opportunity Middle College.

When did you (or do you expect to) graduate from EKU?

I expect to graduate in May 2024.

How did scholarship support from EKU's RMI Program help you make it through college?  Did it change your life?  If so, in what ways?

RMI scholarships have been very supportive financially, academically, and mentally. When I first started college, I wasn't positive about what career path I wanted, and as someone that comes from a single parent household, I always felt like I was wasting the little financially support I had. This affected me mentally and academically. Fortunately for me, I came across RMI and not only was it a field that caught my full attention, but it came with scholarships and opportunities that I could apply for. I believe financial support encourages mental stability on college students, because it encouraged me to focus more on my academics and take advantage of the pathway created for me.

Where are you working now?  What is your job?

I am currently a claims intern at KEMI.

Did getting a scholarship from EKU's RMI Program make it more likely that you will help others?  If so, can you talk more about that?

Yes, I always inform friends or even strangers with a similar college story as mine about RMI and all its opportunities. It's an opportunity that many students would find helpful, I just wish people would kill all the false assumptions about insurance and see how lucrative it is.
