Scholarship Story: Mireya Del Real Gil

Mireya Del Real Gil

Mireya Del Real Gil

Current RMI Major

Where did you attend high school?

I got my GED in Frankfort, Kentucky when I came to the United States

When did you (or do you expect to) graduate from EKU?

I expect to graduate in May 2024

How did scholarship support from EKU's RMI Program help you make it through college? Did it change your life? If so, in what ways?

The RMI program has truly changed my life. I have received so much help to succeed in my future career since the first time I came to EKU. The scholarship I received from EKU’s RMI Program gave me financial help, which means that I will graduate with less student loan debt, but the scholarship to me is more than just that. Thanks to the scholarship, I have had the opportunity to meet new people and grow as a person. I am more confident and motivated to finish college because I know someone believed in me when they awarded me the scholarship.

Where are you working now? What is your job?

I have an internship in the finance department at an insurance company, Kentucky Employers’ Mutual Insurance (KEMI). I have been there for almost a year.

Did getting a scholarship from EKU's RMI Program make it more likely that you will help others? If so, can you talk more about that?

I know how important scholarships are to college students. I plan to graduate and have a stable job that allows me to help others. I would like to give back to the RMI department someday to help others the way that supporters are helping me today.
