Smith Receives Highly Competitive NAPSLO Internship
Sarah Smith, Risk Management and Insurance senior from Berea, is quickly becoming a success within the program.
In 2016, it was announced that Sarah had been chosen for a fantastic internship with Auto Owners in Lexington, Kentucky. The position was paid and gave her experience in claims. She also was able to earn her Adjustor’s License.
One year later, Sarah is still an intern with Auto Owners, and has travelled with the RMI program twice to London, England, to learn valuable skills with Lloyd’s.
“I went twice because the first time around, I didn’t know what to expect. I developed more technical questions throughout my year here at home, and wanted the opportunity to ask all the things I hadn’t asked before,” Sarah explains.
Now, approaching her graduation date of December 2017, Sarah is eagerly anticipating another learning experience that will allow her to travel within her industry; an internship with NAPSLO, the National Association of Professional Surplus Lines and Offices.
Sarah will spend summer of 2017 in both Chicago, Illinois, to shadow a carrier, and Florida, to shadow a broker, studying the different types of positions available in the surplus lines industry. Interns are placed all over the country, acquiring a paid position that will hopefully guide them into the beginning stages of their future careers.
“I would love to end up back in London, England, someday. I’ve visited the city and the companies there multiple times now, and I’ve fallen in love with it,” Sarah says.
For now, she’s excited to begin her journey with NAPSLO, and is looking forward to the potential graduate school could hold for her education and her career.
