Women Leadership Day Spring 2019

Tuesday, February 19, 2019 marked the second Women Leadership Day in the Business and Technology Center. Presented by EKU's Risk Management and Insurance program and Women Leaders in Insurance and Financial Services, the day consisted of networking, a professional panel discussion, and a keynote speaker. As an added bonus, prizes and refreshments were offered. 

Women Leadership RMI tableAttendees at the event included students, professionals in the risk management and insurance industries, as well as vendors and companies looking to hire. Vendors set up tables in the Vice Atrium, and the Women in Leadership Day event coincided with a Risk Management and Insurance career fair. Students were able to network and speak with vendors throughout the day. 

Women in the industry in attendance included the panel of risk management professionals. Suzanne Reed, Genevie M. Osborn, Maggie Tabor, and Robin Yates participated in the panel, representing Kentucky League of Cities Insurance Services, Waddell & Reed, Coca Cola Consolidated, Inc., and UPS OhioRMi Career Fair Valley District Security, respectively. 

Keynote address was given by Karen Milliner in Rogow Auditorium at 3 p.m. Milliner is the Owner/Founder of Linguistical, LLC. A professional networking service, Linguistical is based out of Louisville, Ky., and helps clients understand the "Why, What and How" of effective communication. Milliner was able to skim the surface of this complex topic with students and professionals in attendance during her hour-long lecture. Stating that the spoken word is only 60 percent of human communication, Milliner offered her audience information regarding how to read unspoken communication: body position, body language, eye contact, handshakes, etc., and how to use ones body language to feel more confident in Karen Milliner engages her audiencea social or networking situation. The interactive lecture included audience participation and ended with valuable advice regarding networking and keeping up with connections and relationships individuals build personally and professionally.
